A Legend Who Wrote the History of Korean Volleyball

In 2025, the 'Empress of Volleyball', Kim Yeon-koung, will leave the court. Let's look back on her brilliant achievements and eventful life that have elevated the status of Korean women's volleyball.

1. Dreams and Frustrations of Childhood
Born in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province in 1988, Kim Yeon-koung started playing volleyball in fourth grade. However, due to her short height, she remained a reserve player until middle school. Despite setbacks, Kim Yeon-koung did not give up and continued to develop her skills through constant effort.

2. Professional Debut and Domination of the Domestic Stage
Joining Heungkuk Life Insurance in 2005, Kim Yeon-koung led the team to victory with her outstanding offensive and defensive skills. In 2007, she won the V-League MVP award in just three years since her professional debut, revealing her 'monster' presence.

3. Challenge and Success in the International Arena
After moving to the Japanese JT Marvelous in 2009, Kim Yeon-koung challenged the international stage. In 2011, she joined the Turkish prestigious club Fenerbahce, making a leap to become a world-class player. Since then, she has played for Shanghai in China and Eczacıbaşı in Turkey, winning championships wherever she goes.

4. The 'Savior' of Korean Volleyball
Kim Yeon-koung was the 'savior' of the Korean women's national volleyball team. She led the team to the semifinals of the 2012 London Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, giving the nation a great impression.

5. 'Charisma' on the Court
Kim Yeon-koung exuded a strong charisma on the court. She was not only excellent in skills but also outstanding in leadership to unite the team. Her fellow players called her 'sister' and followed her, and fans respected her with the nickname 'God Yeon-kyung'.

6. Meaning Beyond 'Volleyball'
Kim Yeon-koung was more than just a volleyball player. She gave hope and courage to many people through her constant efforts and passion. Her life was a drama in itself and became a role model for many people.

7. Towards a New Beginning
In 2025, Kim Yeon-koung will leave the court, but her influence will remain forever. The path she has taken will be remembered in the history of Korean volleyball, and her spirit will give eternal inspiration to her junior players.

"Kim Yeon-koung is a 'living legend' of Korean volleyball."
