Kim Ha-seong, a South Korean infielder who has been a standout in Major League Baseball, is generating significant interest as he enters free agency. The latest speculation suggests that he could be joining Shohei Ohtani on the Los Angeles Dodgers.   

After a successful stint with the Kiwoom Heroes in the KBO League, Kim signed a four-year contract with the San Diego Padres in 2020. He has since established himself as a versatile player capable of contributing both offensively and defensively. His 2023 season was particularly impressive, as he earned a Gold Glove Award for his exceptional defensive play at multiple positions.   

However, Kim struggled with injuries in the 2024 season, leading to a decline in his offensive production. Despite this, he remains one of the top free-agent shortstops on the market.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their World Series victory, have been identified as a potential landing spot for Kim. According to Bleacher Report, the Dodgers are expected to offer Kim a one-year, $14 million contract.

The Dodgers have been in need of a consistent second baseman and shortstop for several seasons. While they acquired Tommy Edman at the trade deadline, the team is still searching for a long-term solution at these positions. Kim's versatility and defensive prowess make him an attractive option for the Dodgers.

If Kim were to join the Dodgers, he would have the opportunity to play alongside Shohei Ohtani, one of the most exciting players in baseball. The combination of Kim's defensive skills and Ohtani's offensive power could be a formidable force in the National League.

While a move to the Dodgers would be a significant step in Kim's career, it remains to be seen if he will accept the offer. With his agent, Scott Boras, known for his aggressive negotiations, it is possible that Kim could command a larger contract on the open market.
