Seoul, South Korea – Kumho Petrochemical Group Chairman Park Chan-gu has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Korea Management Award for CEO. Founded in 1970, Kumho Petrochemical is Korea's first synthetic rubber producer and currently boasts one of the world's largest production capacities for this material.

ESG Leadership Recognized

Park has been at the forefront of driving sustainable business practices, prioritizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives over rapid growth. The group's commitment to safety, environmental protection, and social contribution has been evident in various initiatives.

"Environment comes first before business," Park has often emphasized. To underscore this commitment, the group established a dedicated Safety and Environment Planning Division in 2022 and implemented a comprehensive Safety, Environmental, and Health (SEH) system across its petrochemical subsidiaries in 2023. This system, supported by a computerized safety management data system, has significantly improved operational efficiency.

Kumho Petrochemical's proactive approach to ESG has been recognized globally. The company established an ESG committee in 2021 to ensure that ESG-related risks and opportunities are fully considered at the board level. Additionally, a dedicated ESG management team was formed to drive a systematic and sustainable ESG strategy. These efforts have resulted in consistently improving ESG ratings.

Beyond Profit-Driven Growth

By moving beyond traditional growth-oriented strategies, Kumho Petrochemical has focused on delivering exceptional value to customers while prioritizing sustainability. The company's dedication to ESG has not only enhanced its reputation but has also positioned it as a leader in the global chemical industry.
