Siheung City Offers Free Fluoride Mouthwash to Promote Long-Term Dental Health

SIHEUNG, SOUTH KOREA – In a proactive move to enhance the oral health of its residents, Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province has announced the year-round free distribution of fluoride mouthwash. This initiative extends beyond traditional public health centers, making the preventative dental care solution readily accessible at the city’s network of ‘Haengbok Healthy Centers’ (Happiness Healthy Centers).

The city’s health authorities emphasize the significant benefits of regular fluoride mouthwash use. Fluoride plays a crucial role in strengthening tooth enamel, the outer protective layer of teeth, making it more resistant to acid attacks caused by food and drinks. Furthermore, the solution actively inhibits the proliferation of harmful bacteria that are the primary culprits behind dental cavities (caries). Beyond cavity prevention, fluoride mouthwash has also been proven effective in alleviating the discomfort associated with sensitive teeth.

To maximize the effectiveness of the fluoride treatment, residents are advised to use the mouthwash once daily as part of their nighttime oral hygiene routine. The recommended procedure involves thoroughly brushing teeth, then pouring the designated amount of fluoride solution into the provided cap. Users should then rinse their mouth for a full minute, ensuring the solution reaches all surfaces of their teeth, before expectorating the liquid without rinsing with water afterward. This allows the fluoride to remain on the teeth and exert its protective effects overnight.

This valuable resource is conveniently available for collection at the following Haengbok Healthy Centers located throughout Siheung City: Baegot, Eungye, Neunggok, Wolgot 1, Wolgot 2, and Sinhyeon. These community-based health hubs serve as accessible points of care, bringing preventative dental health measures closer to residents' homes.

A spokesperson for the Siheung City Public Health Center highlighted the city’s commitment to public health, stating, "Our Haengbok Healthy Centers act as neighborhood health outposts, and we are pleased to offer free fluoride mouthwash as an effective tool for oral care. This initiative underscores our dedication to promoting the long-term dental well-being of all Siheung citizens and preventing common issues like cavities and tooth sensitivity.”

This initiative by Siheung City underscores a growing recognition of the importance of preventative dental care in maintaining overall health and quality of life. By providing free and easily accessible fluoride mouthwash, the city is empowering its residents to take proactive steps towards preserving their natural teeth and reducing the burden of dental disease within the community.
