Los Angeles, CA – December 26, 2024 – The historic Morris Hotel, a landmark in downtown Los Angeles, was severely damaged by a fire that broke out on Monday evening. The blaze, which took firefighters approximately two hours to contain, caused extensive damage to the century-old structure.   

Built in 1914, the Morris Hotel gained notoriety in the 1970s when it was featured on the cover of The Doors' self-titled debut album. The building had been vacant for over a decade and had become a haven for homeless individuals. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.   

"It's a sad day for Los Angeles," said Fire Chief [Name]. "This building holds a significant place in our city's history. We're grateful that no lives were lost, but the damage is extensive."

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire officials are examining several possible factors, including electrical issues and arson.

The Morris Hotel has been a point of contention among preservationists and developers for years. Its dilapidated state has led to calls for its demolition, while others have advocated for its restoration. The fire is likely to reignite this debate, raising questions about the future of this historic property.
