Enhancing convenience for visitors through improved facility safety and management, and expanding Onnuri gift certificate affiliated stores

Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Cho Sang-ho) announced on the 12th that it has been selected as an outstanding local government for revitalizing traditional markets and shopping districts, and has received the Prime Minister’s Commendation.

The city carried out facility repairs through a competition project hosted by the National Commission for Corporate Partnership, thereby strengthening facility safety and hygiene management in two traditional markets and boosting their competitiveness.

It also created a safe market environment for visitors by supporting the installation of fire alarm systems and enrollment in fire mutual aid insurance.

In particular, by actively promoting the designation of alleyway shopping districts, the number of stores affiliated with Onnuri gift certificates increased significantly from 3,757 in 2025 to 5,585 as of September this year.

In addition, the city worked to build a sustainable commercial ecosystem by enhancing the professionalism of merchant associations through merchant organization efforts.

Moving forward, the city plans to promote anchor projects for Geumnam Daepyeong Market, such as operating youth pop-ups in vacant storefronts and supporting youth entrepreneurship through character development and promotion.

Along with these initiatives, the city plans to continue modernization and environmental improvement projects for traditional markets, including the installation of evaporative cooling systems using special grants for regional issues.

Park Sung-soo, Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, stated, "Taking this award as an opportunity, we will strive to ensure that traditional markets and shopping districts function as the center of the local economy," adding, "We will continue to communicate closely with merchants and implement commercial district revitalization policies that can be genuinely felt on the ground."
