Gyeongju's Hidden Gem: A Cypress Forest Sanctuary

GEONCHEON, GYEONGJU — Nestled in the tranquil foothills of Danseok Mountain, a new sanctuary for nature lovers has emerged in Gyeongju: the Geoncheon Cypress Forest Scent Trail. This enchanting forest path, located in Songseon-ri, offers a serene escape for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing a rich infusion of phytoncides from its dense, towering cypress trees.

The trail itself is a testament to thoughtful design, featuring a 500-meter-long wooden deck that winds gently through the forest. This well-maintained path ensures a comfortable and accessible stroll for visitors of all ages, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the forest's restorative atmosphere without the strain of uneven terrain. For those who wish to linger and absorb the natural beauty, two well-placed pavilions provide perfect spots for rest and reflection.

Reaching this hidden gem is relatively straightforward. For drivers, the forest is accessible via National Road 20 toward Sannae. A clearly marked signpost guides the way to the forest path entrance. While the final stretch is a steep climb, it is passable by car, leading to a small parking area that can accommodate about half a dozen vehicles.

Travelers relying on public transportation can also easily make the journey. Bus 350 provides a convenient route, with a stop at the Songseon 1-ri Dallaechang bus stop. From there, a pleasant 20-minute walk takes visitors directly to the entrance of the Scent Trail.

The Geoncheon Cypress Forest Scent Trail is quickly gaining a reputation as a must-visit destination for wellness and relaxation. It stands as a prime example of Gyeongju's diverse appeal, blending historical significance with pristine natural beauty. Whether for a peaceful morning walk or an afternoon of quiet contemplation, this forest offers a rejuvenating experience for both body and mind.
