Houston, TX – An unprecedented winter storm has gripped the southern United States, bringing heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures to regions not accustomed to such extreme weather conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter storm warnings for Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia on Monday, forecasting up to 15 inches of snow accumulation in some areas.   

The severe weather has disrupted daily life and caused widespread travel disruptions. Both Houston airports have been forced to ground all flights due to the heavy snowfall. Additionally, over 29,000 homes and businesses in southern Texas have experienced power outages.   

Meteorologists warn that the frigid conditions are not limited to the southern states. Approximately two-thirds of the eastern United States is currently experiencing a prolonged cold snap. The northern and eastern coastal regions have been battling an arctic blast since early January.   

As the storm continues to move through the region, officials are urging residents to stay indoors and take precautions to protect themselves from the extreme cold.
