Washington, DC - Korean American Republican Congresswoman Young Kim has secured her third term representing California's 40th congressional district. The victory comes amidst a highly contested midterm election where the Republican Party regained control of the House of Representatives.

As of 9:16 p.m. on November 7th, with 74% of the votes counted, Kim held a commanding 56.4% lead, virtually securing her re-election. Her victory is particularly noteworthy as California is traditionally considered a Democratic stronghold.

Born in Incheon, South Korea, Kim immigrated to the United States with her family in 1975, settling in Guam. After graduating from high school in Guam, she attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she earned a degree in business. Following a career in finance and the fashion industry, Kim entered politics as a staff member for former Republican Congressman Ed Royce, encouraged by her husband.

Kim's political journey began in 2014 when she was elected to the California State Assembly. In 2018, she made her first bid for a congressional seat but was unsuccessful. Two years later, she successfully won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming one of the first Korean American women to serve in Congress, along with Michelle Park Steele and Marilyn Strickland.

As a member of Congress, Kim has been a prominent voice on foreign policy matters, particularly those related to U.S.-Korea relations. In February 2022, she made history again by becoming the first Korean American to chair the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Indo-Pacific Affairs.

Kim's consistent efforts to build a strong base of support among her constituents have been instrumental in her electoral success. Her victory is seen as a testament to her dedication to public service and her ability to connect with voters in a diverse district.

This latest victory solidifies Kim's position as a rising star in the Republican Party and a leading voice for the Korean American community in the United States.
