Cheonan, South Korea – The 2024 Cheonan Cultural City Festa, themed "Thank you, Cheonan!" was held at Dankook University Gymnasium, bringing together 3,000 attendees to celebrate the city's vibrant youth culture. This year's event marked a significant shift in focus, prioritizing youth engagement and laying the groundwork for the next five years of the cultural city initiative.

Amidst a complex political landscape, the organizers decided to streamline the opening ceremony and side events, instead opting for a more intimate gathering that centered on youth voices. Recognizing Cheonan as a university town where young people are at the heart of the cultural scene, the festival provided a platform for them to share their ideas and aspirations.

A highlight of the event was the "Youth Culture Talk Show," hosted by comedian Kim Won-hyo. Joining him on the panel were Kim Gok-mi, the head of the Chungnam Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and three young cultural activists from Cheonan. The panel discussed a range of topics, including entrepreneurship, employment, and leisure, sparking lively discussions with the audience. Young people expressed a particular interest in receiving more support for cultural entrepreneurship, and they were grateful for the city's commitment to fostering their creative endeavors.

The festival also featured booths showcasing local businesses and creative ventures run by young people from Chungnam province. Visitors had the opportunity to experience a variety of products and services, from handmade crafts to innovative technology. One attendee remarked, "It was inspiring to see the new content created by young people in Chungnam. I hope Cheonan Cultural City will continue to provide opportunities for us to discover unique cultural experiences."

To further enhance the visitor experience, the organizers set up pop-up exhibitions and food trucks. Cheonan residents were particularly impressed by the success stories and challenges faced by young entrepreneurs.

Kim Gok-mi, head of the Chungnam Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, expressed her gratitude for the public's support over the past five years and pledged to continue focusing on youth culture and policy.

As Cheonan Cultural City embarks on its next five-year journey, it aims to become a leading model for cultural cities in Chungnam province. By fostering a thriving cultural ecosystem and expanding access to cultural experiences, the city hopes to empower its residents and attract visitors from far and wide.
