YEONGDEOK, Gyeongsangbuk-do – Foreign visitors seeking a unique blend of natural beauty and modern sustainable technology will find an unforgettable experience at the Yeongdeok Wind Farm (영덕풍력발전단지). Perched on the coastal hills overlooking the majestic East Sea, this site is not just an impressive showcase of renewable energy but also a premier scenic lookout.

A Panoramic View of Green Power

The sight of 24 colossal white wind turbines spinning gracefully against the blue sky and the boundless ocean is truly mesmerizing. The complex is situated at a high altitude, offering a spectacular, panoramic view of the rugged coastline. The refreshing sea breeze makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or an afternoon picnic. It’s an ideal destination for photography enthusiasts, providing dramatic backdrops from sunrise to sunset.

Essential Visitor Information

To help international travelers plan their visit, here is the key information:

Address: 247 Haemaji-gil, Yeongdeok-eup, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Republic of Korea (경상북도 영덕군 영덕읍 해맞이길 247)

Getting There (Transportation):

Traveling to Yeongdeok requires a bit of planning, as it is a coastal county far from major cities.

By Public Transport: Take a KTX train to Pohang Station (포항역). From Pohang, you can take a local intercity bus (시외버스) directly to Yeongdeok Bus Terminal (영덕터미널). Once in Yeongdeok-eup, it is recommended to take a local taxi to the Wind Farm, as local bus services to the hill are infrequent.
By Car: Renting a car is the most convenient option for foreigners, providing the flexibility to explore the area. The farm is easily accessible via Coastal Road No. 7. Simply search for "Yeongdeok Wind Farm" on your GPS or mobile navigation app.
Admission: The Wind Farm is free to visit and is generally open 24 hours a day. However, always check the operating hours of the nearby facilities, such as the New & Renewable Energy Center.

Nearby Attractions: Coastal Charm and Local Delicacies

A visit to the Wind Farm is best combined with exploring Yeongdeok's other coastal gems:

Yeongdeok New & Renewable Energy Center (영덕 신재생에너지전시관): Located right next to the wind farm, this center offers educational exhibits on renewable energy technology, making the trip more insightful.
Yeongdeok Sunrise Park (영덕 해맞이공원): Just a short drive away, this park is famous for its picturesque setting and is a popular spot for viewing the New Year's first sunrise.
Gangguhang Port (강구항): No trip to Yeongdeok is complete without visiting this bustling port, renowned as the center for the region’s famous Yeongdeok Snow Crab (영덕대게). Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood restaurants lining the harbor, especially during the snow crab season (typically from November to May).
Samsa Marine Park (삼사해상공원): A beautiful coastal park offering more stunning sea views and a relaxing atmosphere.
The Yeongdeok Wind Farm stands as a captivating symbol of Korea's beautiful nature and its commitment to a sustainable future. It's an excellent day trip destination that promises cool breezes, stunning visuals, and a taste of the East Sea's coastal life.
