Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jung promised on the 23rd that the establishment of the Daejeon Medical Center, a long-cherished project for the residents of Dong-gu, will be carried out without a hitch.

Visiting the construction site of the Daejeon Medical Center during his visit to Dong-gu as part of the 9th popular election's autonomous district tour program, "Sangsaeng Gonggam Tour," Mayor Heo emphasized, "We will seamlessly advance subsequent procedures such as detailed design and construction tendering so that citizens can utilize public medical services as soon as possible."

The Daejeon Medical Center, a regional hub public medical institution, will be built in the Seollyang District of Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, across from Daejeon University, with two basement levels, seven above-ground levels (building area of 34,500 square meters), and a scale of 319 beds.

The Daejeon Medical Center is a core pledge project of the 9th popular election, and it will serve as a key hub for the central region's medical safety net to strengthen local public health capacity and respond to public health crises such as infectious diseases.

In September of this year, the city concluded consultations on adjusting the total project cost and finalized a total budget of 222.3 billion won, including 83.9 billion won in national funds and 138.4 billion won in municipal funds.

Moving forward, the city plans to proceed with related procedures such as detailed design and architectural consultations, break ground next year, and aim for opening in 2030.

During a subsequent dialogue with some 400 citizens held at the Dong-gu Office auditorium, Mayor Heo stated that he would provide special adjustment grants for five projects requested by Dong-gu, including the improvement of administrative welfare center facilities and the installation of rain shelter facilities for the Mokcheokgyo outdoor performance stage.

Regarding the park golf course currently being promoted in Yongun-dong, he added that it will be preferentially constructed with the currently planned scale of 9 holes, with plans to review a mid- to long-term expansion in the future.

Mayor Heo stated, "We will seamlessly advance core projects such as the establishment of the Daejeon Medical Center and the development of the Daejeon Station area to support Dong-gu in leaping beyond being the gateway of Daejeon into a new center of growth."
