OSAKA, JAPAN – Chungcheongnam-do Province actively promoted its diverse tourism offerings at the ‘K-Tourism Festa’ held in Osaka from May 13th to 16th. The event, strategically timed to coincide with the lead-up to the highly anticipated 2025 Osaka Expo, aimed to attract international visitors and spotlight the unique cultural and natural attractions of South Korea.

The K-Tourism Festa, organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), unfolded within the expansive grounds of the future Osaka Expo site. This significant international tourism promotion event drew participation from a total of 42 organizations, encompassing local governments, airlines, and travel agencies, all united in their efforts to showcase the allure of traveling to South Korea. The festival featured a wide array of engaging programs designed to captivate attendees, including a dedicated K-Food Zone presenting the tantalizing flavors of Korean cuisine, a K-Culture-themed stage hosting vibrant performances and cultural showcases, interactive Korean culture experience zones offering hands-on activities, and eye-catching photo zones perfect for capturing memorable moments.

During the four-day event, Chungcheongnam-do Province operated a joint promotional booth in collaboration with Asan City, Hongseong County, and the Chungnam Culture & Tourism Foundation. This collaborative effort allowed for a comprehensive presentation of the region's multifaceted appeal. A key focus of their promotion was the rich Baekje heritage, which shares deep historical connections with Japan, fostering a sense of familiarity and interest among Japanese visitors. Furthermore, the province highlighted its picturesque coastal tourist destinations, inviting travelers to explore its scenic shores and islands. The vibrant seasonal festivals that punctuate the annual calendar in Chungcheongnam-do were also prominently featured, showcasing the dynamic cultural landscape of the region throughout the year.

In a targeted effort to stimulate tourism packages, Chungcheongnam-do representatives provided detailed tourism information to local Japanese travel agencies. This information encompassed meticulously curated seasonal and thematic travel itineraries, a diverse range of accommodation options, and a guide to the region's delectable gastronomy. By equipping travel professionals with these resources, the province aims to encourage the development and promotion of Chungcheongnam-do-centric tourism products within the Japanese market.

A representative from Chungcheongnam-do Province emphasized the strategic importance of the Japanese market, stating, "Japan shares close historical and cultural ties with Chungcheongnam-do, and it consistently ranks as the second-largest source of inbound tourists to Korea." The representative further articulated the province's objectives for participating in the K-Tourism Festa, noting, "Our involvement in this event provides a valuable platform to proactively promote customized content tailored to the preferences of Japanese tourists and to solidify the foundation for attracting an even greater number of visitors from Japan."

Chungcheongnam-do, situated in the western part of South Korea, boasts a rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty. The Baekje Historic Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage site located within the province, stand as a testament to the ancient Baekje Kingdom, which flourished from the 1st century BCE to 660 CE and maintained significant cultural exchange with Japan. These historical sites offer a captivating glimpse into a bygone era, featuring well-preserved royal tombs, fortresses, and temples that showcase intricate architectural styles and artistic achievements.

Beyond its historical significance, Chungcheongnam-do offers a diverse array of attractions. Its extensive coastline is dotted with stunning beaches, picturesque islands, and vibrant seafood markets, making it an ideal destination for coastal exploration and culinary adventures. The province is also home to several national parks and protected areas, offering opportunities for hiking, nature walks, and immersion in Korea's scenic landscapes. Throughout the year, various festivals celebrate local traditions, agricultural harvests, and natural phenomena, providing visitors with authentic cultural experiences.

The province's strategic participation in the Osaka K-Tourism Festa underscores its commitment to diversifying its tourism markets and capitalizing on the growing global interest in South Korea, particularly in anticipation of the 2025 Osaka Expo, which is expected to draw millions of international visitors. By proactively engaging with the Japanese market and highlighting its unique appeal, Chungcheongnam-do aims to establish itself as a must-visit destination for Japanese travelers seeking a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty in South Korea. The collaborative approach with local cities and the tourism foundation further strengthens their promotional efforts, ensuring a unified and compelling message to potential visitors.
