Toyota Motor Corporation, a global automotive giant, has unveiled significant progress on its ambitious "Woven City" project, a futuristic smart city designed to redefine urban living. During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda announced the completion of the first phase of the city, promising a public unveiling later this year.

Conceived as a living laboratory for innovative mobility solutions, Woven City is set to showcase the intersection of technology and urban design. Located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, the city is being built on the former site of a Toyota factory. The project has garnered international attention for its commitment to sustainability, community, and technological advancement.

Key features and goals of Woven City include:

Sustainable living: The city is designed to be carbon neutral, utilizing renewable energy sources and incorporating nature into its urban fabric.
Autonomous mobility: Woven City will serve as a testing ground for self-driving vehicles, connected infrastructure, and advanced robotics.
Collaborative innovation: Toyota is inviting a diverse range of partners, from startups to established corporations, to contribute to the development of the city.
Improved quality of life: The city is focused on enhancing the well-being of its residents through features such as personalized healthcare, smart homes, and community-oriented spaces.
"Woven City represents a new era of urban development," said Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda. "By bringing together the brightest minds from around the world, we can create a sustainable and inclusive future for generations to come."

To foster innovation and collaboration, Toyota is launching an accelerator program later this year. This program will provide funding and resources to startups and individuals with innovative ideas for the city. Additionally, Toyota is inviting residents and visitors to become "Weavers," active participants in shaping the future of Woven City.

As the world grapples with challenges such as climate change and urbanization, Toyota's Woven City offers a glimpse into a possible future where technology and sustainability work together to create more livable and resilient cities.
