Geely Auto and Renault Launch Joint Effort to Tap into Brazil's EV Market: EX5 to Debut in 2025

Chinese automaker Geely Auto (吉利汽车) and French Renault Group are joining forces to take their first step in conquering the South American market. The two companies have announced that they will officially launch their first jointly developed electric vehicle model, the 'Geely EX5,' in the Brazilian market in July 2025. This marks the first product jointly introduced by the two companies in Brazil and is expected to be a significant move in entering the high-potential Latin American EV market.

Aiming for 60 Dealership Network Across Brazil: Initial Launch with 23 Locations

Geely Auto and Renault Group have announced an ambitious plan to establish a total of 60 dealer networks across Brazil, centered on the Geely brand. Initially, they plan to open 23 dedicated Geely dealerships in 18 major cities, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, to establish sales and service hubs. This demonstrates the two companies' proactive commitment to entering the Brazilian market.

Fruit of Expanded Strategic Partnership: Leveraging Local Production and Infrastructure

This entry into the Brazilian market follows the framework agreement for the expansion of their strategic partnership signed in February. Through this agreement, Geely Auto will acquire a minority stake in Renault do Brasil and will share Renault's local production facilities, sales network, and service infrastructure. This is expected to provide Geely Auto with a crucial foundation for efficiently establishing itself and securing competitiveness in the Brazilian market. The two companies plan to focus on the production and sale of low-carbon and zero-emission vehicles within Brazil and will collaborate closely to provide sustainable mobility solutions.

Renault Latin America CEO: "EX5 is a Successful First Step"

Luiz Fernando Pedrucci, Renault Group's Executive Vice President and CEO of Latin America, stated, "The launch of the Geely brand in the Brazilian market is a very significant moment in Renault Group's history." He added, "Through the EX5, a leading global model symbolizing technology, innovation, and a spirit of challenge, we have taken a successful first step in the Brazilian market." He expressed his anticipation that this collaboration will enable them to provide Brazilian consumers with attractive EV models and excellent service.

Global Market-Oriented Electric SUV 'EX5': Packed with Advanced Technology

The 'Geely EX5,' scheduled for launch in the Brazilian market in July 2025, is a global market-oriented electric SUV model available in both left-hand and right-hand drive versions. The EX5 is known to be equipped with various cutting-edge technologies, including an intelligent energy management system, advanced safety features, spacious and efficient space utilization, and a user-friendly interface. Specific specifications and performance information will be disclosed at the time of launch, but it is anticipated to have a significant impact on the Brazilian EV market based on its competitive pricing and excellent product quality.

Geely Auto Vice President: "Brazil is a Dynamic Market: Providing Tailored Products and Services"

Alex Nan, Vice President of Geely Auto, analyzed, "Brazil is one of the most dynamic automotive markets in Latin America, with particularly high consumer demand for advanced technology." He emphasized, "Through our strategic collaboration with Renault, we will provide innovative products and services tailored to the needs of Brazilian consumers." He indicated Geely Auto's plan to further strengthen its global market competitiveness and expand its presence in the South American market through this entry into Brazil.

Launch of Dedicated Global Mobile App for EX5: Delivering a Smart Customer Experience

Meanwhile, Geely Auto launched the 'Geely Global App,' a dedicated global mobile application for EX5 customers, in March, ahead of the EX5 launch. This app is an integrated vehicle management platform that provides various functions such as checking vehicle status, managing charging, remote control, and viewing vehicle information, aiming to provide EX5 customers worldwide with a more intuitive and smart vehicle ownership experience. This is seen as an example of Geely Auto's efforts to innovate the entire customer experience beyond just vehicle sales.

The joint entry of Geely Auto and Renault Group into the Brazilian market can be interpreted as a significant move foreshadowing important changes in the global automotive industry. As the influence of Chinese automakers gradually expands, the industry is paying close attention to whether Geely Auto can successfully establish itself in the South American market through its collaboration with Renault Group, a traditional automotive powerhouse. Furthermore, there is a strong focus on the performance of the Geely EX5 in the increasingly competitive Brazilian EV market.
