Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education to Invest 112.7 Billion KRW for Future-Oriented New Building, Aiming for Completion in 2029

The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education is accelerating the full-scale promotion of a comprehensive plan to construct a new building. This initiative aims to replace the aging current building and establish an innovative educational administration space that aligns with future changes in the educational environment.

Following the final approval of the central investment review by the Ministry of Education last year, the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education has demonstrated swift administrative action, including the establishment of a new Educational Institution Establishment Team in April of this year to efficiently 추진 the construction of the new building. The newly prepared comprehensive plan encompasses the detailed schedule and administrative procedures required for the entire process of constructing the new building, presenting a systematic roadmap from the design competition to construction and completion.

The new building will be constructed on the site of the current Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education at 9 Jeonggak-ro, Namdong-gu, and will be expanded to a scale of two underground floors and nine above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 26,273㎡. A total project cost of 112.7 billion KRW will be invested, reflecting the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education's commitment to creating a core space that leads the future educational environment, going beyond a simple relocation of the office.

According to the comprehensive plan, the design competition, the first stage of the new building's construction, will be held for approximately three months from August to October. Fair competition is expected to discover creative and innovative designs. Based on the winning design selected through the competition, basic and detailed designs will be carried out, and full-scale construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education has set the target for the completion of the new building in October 2029 and plans to make every effort to ensure the project proceeds without any setbacks.

The design direction and internal space configuration of the new building will focus on securing user-centered efficiency and flexibility to adapt to future changes in the educational environment. To this end, various ideas will be gathered and specified through the architectural planning service and the design competition. In particular, an advisory committee composed of parents, citizens, and architectural experts will be operated to actively reflect the opinions of various stakeholders, thereby striving to create a space that satisfies both the citizens and the educational community.

An official from the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education emphasized, "The comprehensive plan for the construction of the new building, which has been established this time, is a concrete blueprint for creating a future-oriented educational administration space and will be a solid starting point for the project 추진." They also expressed their ambition to "go beyond simply expanding the office space and create the new building as a new central space for Incheon education that promotes communication and cooperation and leads the changes in future education."

The construction of a new building has been a long-cherished project for Incheon education. The existing building is old, with limited space and outdated facilities, which has consistently been pointed out as hindering administrative efficiency and weakening the ability to respond to the changing educational environment. Accordingly, the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education has keenly felt the need for a new building that can meet future educational demands, provide a pleasant and efficient working environment for faculty and staff, and offer convenient and open educational administrative services to citizens.

Reflecting these needs, the new building will be constructed as a modern facility equipped with various functions such as a smart office environment, flexible and creative work spaces, and citizen-friendly open spaces. Furthermore, by applying eco-friendly architectural design that enhances energy efficiency, it is expected to contribute to creating a sustainable future educational environment.

The fact that the planned site for the new building is the same as the existing building site is considered advantageous in terms of ensuring the continuity of the project 추진 and maintaining accessibility for educational service users. The surrounding area is also home to major administrative institutions such as Incheon City Hall and the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, which is expected to have a positive impact on enhancing the efficiency of educational administration.

The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education plans to do its best to achieve the goal of completing the new building in October 2029 through transparent and efficient project management at each stage, including the design competition, basic and detailed design, and construction. It is anticipated that the construction of the new building will further advance Incheon education and enable greater efforts to nurture creative talents who will lead the future society.
