Seoul, South Korea – The South Korean government has announced plans to redefine the scope of work for delivery drivers, aiming to alleviate their heavy workload and ensure they can focus solely on the core task of delivering packages.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed on January 29th that it will clarify the boundaries of package sorting, a contentious issue within the delivery industry.
The delivery process typically involves three main stages: collection, sorting, and delivery. While there has been significant debate over whether package sorting falls within the responsibilities of delivery drivers, the government has now decided to provide clear guidelines.
Package sorting involves organizing parcels according to their delivery destinations and loading them onto delivery vehicles. This task has often been seen as an additional burden for delivery drivers, who are already required to complete deliveries. By clarifying the scope of work, the government aims to reduce the overall workload and improve working conditions for delivery personnel.
To implement these changes, the government plans to revise standard contracts this month, ensuring that key terms such as designated delivery areas are clearly outlined.
