Los Angeles, CA – South Korea and the U.S. state of Nevada have entered into a driver's license reciprocity agreement, set to take effect on March 19, 2025. This agreement will allow residents holding valid driver's licenses from either jurisdiction to obtain a driver's license in the other without having to take a practical driving test.

The agreement, signed on March 7th by Consul General Kim Young-wan of the South Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles on behalf of the Korean National Police Agency, will enable South Korean license holders to acquire a Nevada Class C non-commercial driver's license by passing only the written examination. Similarly, Nevada license holders will enjoy the same benefit when seeking a South Korean driver's license.

Nevada now has driver's license reciprocity agreements with two countries, South Korea and Taiwan. South Korea is the 28th country to have such an agreement with Nevada.

The agreement stems from discussions between Consul General Kim Young-wan and Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo in late 2023, where they recognized the need to facilitate economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

"This driver's license reciprocity agreement is expected to contribute to strengthening economic cooperation between South Korea and Nevada and enhancing the convenience of overseas Koreans," said Consul General Kim.

The Las Vegas Korean Association has released a statement from it's president Kim Hangho, welcoming the agreement. "I am happy and proud to announce news of this agreement." He stated. "The Las Vegas Korean Association has continually worked to make it easier to recognize Korean drivers licenses in Nevada, and due to this agreement, those who hold Korean drivers licenses will be able to exchange them for Nevada drivers licenses without complicated procedures. And likewise, those who hold Nevada drivers licenses will receive the same benefits in South Korea. This is a meaningful achievement that reflects the close cooperation between both countries and the voices of our Korean community. The Las Vegas Korean Association will continue to work to protect the rights and improve the convenience of our fellow Korean residents."
