Cairo, Egypt – Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Huweij, and Palestinian Minister of Trade, Mohammed Al-Amour, met in Cairo on Thursday to discuss strengthening economic and trade cooperation between their two nations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Arab League's Economic and Social Council meeting at the League of Arab States headquarters.   

A key focus of the discussion was the revitalization of the Libyan-Palestinian Businesspeople Council. Both ministers expressed their belief that this council could play a crucial role in fostering investment partnerships and facilitating Palestinian businesses' entry into the Libyan market. This initiative aims to unlock new avenues for collaboration and stimulate economic growth in both countries.   

Beyond bilateral cooperation, the ministers explored avenues for collaboration within international economic organizations. They emphasized the importance of coordinating their efforts to enhance their respective roles in regional and global economic bodies. This strategic alignment seeks to amplify their collective influence and ensure that their shared interests are effectively represented, contributing to broader Arab economic integration.   

Looking ahead, the two ministers announced plans for a high-level Palestinian delegation to visit Libya in April. This delegation, comprised of representatives from diverse economic sectors, will further explore opportunities for joint ventures, trade exchange, and investment. The visit signals a strong commitment from both sides to deepen their economic relationship and establish a robust framework for future collaboration. Specific sectors of interest for collaboration were not detailed in initial reports but are expected to be a focus of the April delegation visit. This visit is anticipated to result in concrete agreements and initiatives aimed at boosting trade volumes and fostering sustainable economic partnerships.   

The ministers also discussed the potential for joint projects in sectors such as reconstruction, infrastructure development, and energy, leveraging Palestine's expertise in certain areas and Libya's resources. The details of these potential collaborations will be further explored during the upcoming visit.

This renewed focus on economic cooperation between Libya and Palestine reflects a shared desire to overcome economic challenges and build a more prosperous future for their people. By leveraging their respective strengths and fostering closer ties, both nations aim to contribute to regional stability and economic growth.
