"Emilia Perez" Makes History as the Most-Nominated Non-English Language Film at the Oscars

French director Jacques Audiard’s Netflix film, "Emilia Perez," has made history at the 97th Academy Awards, securing a leading 13 nominations. The film, which follows a Mexican drug cartel leader who undergoes gender reassignment surgery to evade law enforcement, has been nominated in key categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best International Feature Film, and Best Cinematography.

The film’s protagonist, played by Carla Sofia Gascón, is a real-life transgender actress who has become the first transgender individual to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Additionally, "Emilia Perez," produced in Spanish, has set a new record as the most-nominated non-English language film in Academy Awards history.
