Special Prosecutor Attempts to Enforce Arrest Warrant for Former President Yoon Suk Yeol in 'Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor' Case

As former President Yoon Suk Yeol failed to comply with the summons from the 'Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor,' the special prosecution team has obtained an arrest warrant and is attempting to take him into custody by force.

On the morning of the 1st, the special prosecutor's team, led by Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki, visited the Seoul Detention Center to attempt to enforce the arrest warrant for former President Yoon. This arrest warrant is a measure to compel an investigation into Yoon, who has repeatedly failed to appear for both the 'Civil War Special Prosecutor' investigation and his own trial.

Yoon had twice failed to respond to the special prosecutor's requests for his presence on the 29th and 30th of last month, not even submitting a lawyer's retainer. In response, the special prosecutor's office obtained an arrest warrant from the Seoul Central District Court. A team of investigators, including Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon Hong-joo, visited the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, at 9 a.m. on the 1st to enforce the warrant. The warrant is valid until the 7th.

During a briefing on the 31st, Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon stated, "I understand that there are no major issues with former President Yoon's health," and "we actually plan to take him into custody by force." The public's attention is focused on how Yoon's continued refusal to appear and the special prosecutor's attempt to force his detention will affect the future direction of the investigation.
