Daejeon City successfully completed the '2025 Indoor and Rooftop Garden Creation Project' in July, having commenced construction in May.

This project aimed to provide nature-friendly green resting spaces by utilizing unused areas in public institutions within the city center. It also sought to address climate change issues like the urban heat island effect and fine dust, while securing healing spaces for citizens.

The selected sites include: ▲ Patent Court's 4th-floor East/West rooftop gardens and 6th-floor rooftop garden, and ▲ Daejeon Urban Development Corporation's 11th-floor indoor garden and 12th-floor rooftop garden. A total project cost of 1 billion KRW (50% national funding, 50% city funding) was invested. After proceeding with detailed design and structural safety diagnosis services from January, construction began in May and was completed in July.

The satisfaction and positive response from both employees of the respective institutions and visiting citizens regarding the newly created garden rest areas are very high. The garden facilities are expected to significantly contribute to the psychological well-being and welfare improvement of users.

Building on this project, Daejeon City plans to continuously expand "living gardens" throughout the city center. In the future, the city intends to broaden the indoor and rooftop garden project to various multi-use facilities, including public institutions, libraries, and welfare centers.

Park Young-cheol, Director-General of Daejeon City's Green and Agricultural Life Bureau, stated, "Through this project, we have created spaces where citizens can enjoy nature even within the city. We will continue to do our best to create a pleasant and sustainable urban green environment to improve the quality of life for citizens."
