Chungcheong Bio Companies Gather in Japan for Global Order Wins

Chungcheong-region bio companies have set out to secure global partners in Japan.

BioJapan 2026 is being held from October 7 to 9 at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan. BioJapan is a major Asian bio-partnering event covering the entire bio industry, including new drug development, Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMO), regenerative medicine, and digital health.

The event features 1,200 companies and organizations participating in exhibitions, while 1,769 entities are taking part in the partnering program. Participants from 40 countries and regions are gathering, with more than 26,000 business meetings expected to take place during the event.

At this year's event, domestic companies plan to target the Japanese and Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets across various fields, ranging from CDMO contract wins to new drug technology transfers and joint development.

Chungcheong-based Celltrion has set up an exhibition space within the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster (KBIC) booth. Celltrion previously announced plans to foster promising bio startups in cooperation with KBIC, Japan's largest bio cluster. This project is the first-ever public-private collaborative open innovation program co-planned and operated by Celltrion and a Japanese bio cluster.

Celltrion plans to introduce its open innovation cases alongside KBIC at the event.

Biotechs with headquarters in Chungbuk and Daejeon—such as G2G Bio, Alteogen, LigaChem Biosciences, and Peptron—are also participating in partnering meetings.

In particular, the Chungbuk Technopark is participating for the third consecutive year since 2024, operating the "K-STARTUP@BIO Pavilion." Seven companies are participating in the pavilion: $text{Recode}$, $text{Ipsc}$, $text{Cellobio}$, $text{OrganoidSciences}$, $text{Qpeakbio}$, and $text{T-CubeIT}$.

A local bio industry official noted, "For regional bio companies, this event is significant because they can meet APAC region partners in one place," adding, "It will serve as a venue to initiate discussions on technology transfers and joint development targeting global pharmaceutical companies."
