MALVERN, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the launch of its new high-brightness tri-color RGB LED, designed to push the boundaries of color rendering in display and backlighting applications.

The new VLMRGB1500 series is housed in an ultra-compact 0404 surface-mount package, measuring just 1.0 mm x 1.0 mm x 0.65 mm. This represents a significant 70% reduction in size compared to the conventional PLCC-4 package, allowing for higher pixel density and more flexible PCB designs.

Precision Engineering for Superior Color
One of the standout features of the VLMRGB1500 is its architecture. By utilizing a common anode and separate cathodes for each of the Red, True Green, and Blue chips, engineers can control each color independently. This level of granularity enables the realization of any color within the gamut triangle defined by the CIE 1931 color space, making it ideal for high-definition video boards and decorative lighting.

Performance and Reliability
The device leverages advanced AlInGaP and InGaN technologies, delivering a luminous intensity of up to 252 mcd at a low driving current of 5 mA. Beyond its visual performance, the series is built for rugged environments:

Temperature Range: Operates reliably from -40°C to +85°C.
Robustness: Meets Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) 3 and boasts high ESD immunity (up to 2 kV for Red, 1 kV for Blue/Green).
Eco-Friendly: RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and adheres to "Vishay Green" standards.

Versatile Applications
Thanks to its small footprint and high output, the LED is perfectly suited for:

Industrial & Automotive: Dashboard signals, status indicators, and energy storage systems.
Consumer Electronics: Keyboard backlighting, micro-mobility displays, and communication equipment.
Large Scale: Full-color message boards and video displays.

Availability
Samples and production quantities of the VLMRGB1500 are available now, with a standard lead time of approximately 17 weeks. As "The DNA of tech.®," Vishay continues to provide the essential components that power the world’s most innovative electronic sectors.
