Good Morning Chungcheong & Hong Beom-do General Commemoration Association to Host 'General Hong Beom-do Trail Trekking Competition'

A trekking competition will be held in Daejeon to retrace the footsteps of independent hero General Hong Beom-do and reflect on his spirit of independence movement. The '2026 General Hong Beom-do Trail Trekking Competition' will take place at 9:00 AM on November 14 at the Veterans Performing Arts Hall in the Daejeon National Cemetery.

Co-hosted by 'Good Morning Chungcheong' and the 'Hong Beom-do General Commemoration Association', this event was organized to commemorate the '83rd anniversary of General Hong Beom-do's passing and the 106th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Cheongsanri'. Participants can enjoy the autumn scenery while walking around the Daejeon National Cemetery, including the tomb of General Hong Beom-do, and reflect on the life of the General and the significance of the anti-Japanese independence movement.

The competition features 2 courses and is currently accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 4km Course A is a health course designed for children and families, starting from the Veterans Performing Arts Hall and passing through the Firefighters' Cemetery, Memorial Square, 3rd Military Cemetery, General Hong Beom-do's Tomb, 2nd Military Cemetery, and in front of the Memorial Hall before returning to the Veterans Performing Arts Hall. It is recruiting 1000 people on a first-come, first-served basis with an entry fee of 2,000 won.

The 10km Course B is for experienced hikers and physically healthy participants, making a large loop through the mountain trails inside the National Cemetery around the Veterans Performing Arts Hall and returning. It is recruiting 200 people on a first-come, first-served basis with an entry fee of 5,000 won.

Souvenirs will be provided to all participants. Additionally, as side events, a historical exhibition of General Hong Beom-do will be held, alongside generous lucky draw events and performance programs.

Kim Si-heon, CEO of Good Morning Chungcheong, said, "This competition is an opportunity for families and citizens to enjoy the autumn of the Daejeon National Cemetery, take care of their health, and reflect on the history of the independence movement." He added, "Especially through the course that directly visits General Hong Beom-do's tomb, it will serve as an occasion to remember the life and sacrifice of the independence activist and carry on his spirit."

General Hong Beom-do is a representative independence activist who led the anti-Japanese armed struggle during the Japanese colonial period. Starting with righteous army activities, he led the independence army and led victories against the Japanese military in the Battles of Bongodong and Cheongsanri. He passed away in Kazakhstan in 1943, and his remains were repatriated to South Korea from Kazakhstan in 2021 and laid to rest in the Daejeon National Cemetery.
