Samcheok City is recruiting participants for vocational training to enhance job skills and expand re-employment opportunities for unemployed youth and middle-aged individuals, as well as those who are retired or nearing retirement. This initiative is a proactive effort to help citizens acquire new skills and find stable jobs in the rapidly changing labor market.

Four Courses, 40 Participants Selected... Aiming for Practical Employment Support

The training program consists of four courses: Architectural Painting Craftsman, Industrial Safety Industrial Engineer (Written Exam), Computerized Accounting Practice, and Waterproofing Craftsman. Each course will select 10 participants, for a total of 40 trainees. These courses focus on fields with high demand in the current industrial landscape, aiming to help participants successfully re-enter the workforce.

Architectural Painting Craftsman: This course helps participants acquire the skills and knowledge needed for interior and exterior painting of buildings, aiding employment in construction sites and related industries. It is closely linked to the construction market, with steady demand for skilled workers expected due to increased remodeling needs.
Industrial Safety Industrial Engineer (Written Exam): This course aims to train experts in industrial safety management. As the importance of preventing industrial accidents grows, this certification is becoming essential in all workplaces, allowing graduates to work in various fields such as construction and manufacturing. (Note: The Industrial Safety Industrial Engineer qualification requires passing both the written and practical exams).
Computerized Accounting Practice: This course develops the ability to handle corporate accounting tasks using computerized programs. Accounting personnel are essential regardless of company size or industry, making this a useful course for those hoping to re-enter office work. Recently, the importance of integration with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems has also grown.
Waterproofing Craftsman: This course involves acquiring specialized skills needed for preventing leaks and waterproofing buildings. The demand for skilled waterproofing personnel is increasing due to the aging of residential and commercial buildings and the consequent rise in maintenance needs.

Application Period and Eligibility: Open to All Samcheok Citizens

Participant recruitment runs until June 13th, with interviews scheduled for June 14th. Successful applicants will be notified individually on the afternoon of the interview day. Eligibility requires applicants to be registered residents of Samcheok City as of the training start date (the exact training start date needs to be confirmed on the Samcheok City website), with no age restrictions. This demonstrates Samcheok City's commitment to fostering local talent and revitalizing the local economy.

Furthermore, trainees who complete 80% or more of the training course will receive transportation expenses, reducing the financial burden of participation and contributing to higher completion rates. This reflects the city's consideration in creating an environment where participants can focus on preparing for re-employment.

How to Apply and Check Details

Applications can be submitted via mail, in-person, email, or fax through the Samcheok City Hall Economic Division or the Korea Polytechnic University Gangneung Campus. The variety of application methods aims to improve accessibility for citizens. Detailed course content, schedules, necessary materials, and other information can be found on the Samcheok City Hall website's announcements section. Samcheok City is providing ample information to ensure citizens have no questions during the application process.

Samcheok City's Efforts for Employment Activation and Expected Effects

A Samcheok City official stated, "Through this vocational training program, we hope citizens find new jobs and contribute to local job creation," adding, "We encourage many interested citizens to participate." This indicates Samcheok City's intent to go beyond merely providing educational opportunities, aiming to inject vitality into the local community and promote sustainable development.

Recently, many local governments facing the crisis of regional extinction due to an aging population and youth outflow are using vocational training programs to attract and retain residents. Samcheok City is also seen as aligning with this trend, focusing on tailored vocational training to cultivate a workforce that considers local characteristics. In particular, Samcheok City in Gangwon Province is experiencing diverse job demands, adapting to changes in the tourism industry, energy-related industries, and existing fishing and mining sectors. This training will serve as an important stepping stone to help citizens adapt to these changes in local industries and seize new opportunities. Ultimately, it is expected to contribute not only to improving the quality of life for individual citizens but also to increasing Samcheok City's economic self-reliance.
