Vientiane, Laos – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has unveiled the "Laos Higher Education for Accelerated Development (LEAD)" project to elevate the quality of higher education in Laos. This initiative, with a budget of USD 7.87 million, aims to enhance academic performance across key regions including Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, Champassak, and Vientiane Capital.

Officially launched on December 16th, the LEAD project will focus on strengthening academic content, improving English language proficiency, and fostering cultural exchange programs for students. Additionally, the project will provide increased scholarship opportunities and equip students with 21st-century skills, enabling Laotian higher education institutions to compete globally.

The collaborative effort between the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International and the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Sports is designed to uplift Laos' educational standards and contribute to the country's socio-economic development.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Lavanh Vongkhamsane, Director General of the Department of Higher Education, and Paul Kaiser, Chief of Party for the RTI-LEAD project. The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Samlane Phankhavong, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, and US Ambassador to Laos, Heather Variava.
