Busan, South Korea – The city of Busan has announced the appointment of acclaimed theater director Park Kal-lin as the chief director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 106th National Sports Festival and the 45th National Para Sports Festival, to be held in Busan in October 2025.

Park will be responsible for the overall planning and direction of the ceremonies, including detailed operations and external collaborations. The goal is to create a moving and inspiring stage that showcases Busan's identity and future vision.

With deep roots in Busan, where she spent her childhood and high school years, Park has a special connection to the city. Her involvement in the drama club at Kyungnam Girls' High School sparked her interest in musicals, and she has since become a renowned director both domestically and internationally.

Park made her debut as the music director for the creative musical "The Last Empress" and has since helmed numerous large-scale productions such as "Aida," "Chicago," and "Sisters." She has also showcased her exceptional directing skills in various performances like the "One K Concert" and the "Gangnam Festival."

In 2014, Park garnered widespread praise for her work as the chief director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Incheon Asian Para Games, where she incorporated local characteristics into the storytelling and stage design.

A selection committee comprised of experts in the field was formed to find a qualified individual to lead the ceremonies. After careful consideration, the committee unanimously chose Park for her exceptional talent and ability to create memorable performances.

"The opening ceremony for the 2025 Busan National Sports Festival will feature Busan's geography, industries, and sports, and incorporate the stories of the city's people," Park said. "We plan to create a grand spectacle by maximizing the elements of a mega-event, including storytelling, choreography, music, and lighting."
