Incheon Bans Idling of All Vehicles Starting January 1, 2025

Incheon Metropolitan City announced on December 27 that it will completely ban idling of all motor vehicles, including motorcycles, throughout the entire city (except for Yeongheung-myeon in Ongjin-gun) starting from January 1, 2025. Violators will face a fine of 50,000 won.

This measure is being implemented following the revision of the "Incheon Metropolitan City Ordinance on Restrictions on Idling of Motor Vehicles" in June. The city expanded the scope of vehicles and areas subject to idling restrictions in order to improve air quality and minimize inconvenience to residents caused by exhaust fumes and noise.

The ban applies to all motor vehicles, including motorcycles, and the idling time limit has been reduced from 3 minutes to 2 minutes. However, idling for up to 5 minutes is permitted when the outdoor temperature is below 5°C or above 25°C, considering the need for heating or cooling. Idling is not restricted when the temperature is below 0°C or above 30°C.

Vehicle owners who are caught idling by enforcement officers and fail to stop idling after being warned will be subject to a fine of 50,000 won.
