Seoul's Songpa-gu has announced the continuation of its 'Songpa-gu Citizen Bicycle Insurance' for another year, aiming to encourage bicycle usage and ease the financial strain on residents in case of accidents.

Approximately 650,000 residents are automatically enrolled in the insurance program, which provides coverage of up to 30 million won depending on the type of accident. Since its inception in 2021, the insurance has paid out over 634 million won to 1,619 residents.

Comprehensive Coverage for Residents

The insurance covers a range of incidents, including death, disability, medical diagnoses, hospitalization, fines, legal fees, and traffic accident support. Coverage amounts vary from 200,000 won to 30 million won.

All Songpa-gu residents, including registered foreign nationals, are automatically covered. The insurance applies not only to cyclists but also to pedestrians involved in bicycle-related accidents.

Coverage Period and Claims

The insurance period runs from March 1st to February 28th of next year. Claims can be filed with DB Insurance within three years of the accident, with the possibility of overlapping coverage with personal insurance policies.

"Bicycles are vital for both the environment and our health, but accidents can lead to unexpected costs," said Songpa-gu Mayor Seo Gang-seok. "This insurance aims to provide peace of mind and financial security for our residents."

Key Details:

Automatic Enrollment: All Songpa-gu residents are automatically enrolled.
Coverage Range: 200,000 won to 30 million won, depending on the type of accident.
Coverage Period: March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026.
Claims: Must be filed with DB Insurance within three years of the accident.
Duplicate Coverage: Possible with personal insurance policies.
