Peru's agricultural exports soared to a historic $12.798 billion in 2024, marking a remarkable 21.4% increase compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Key Highlights:

Global Reach: Peruvian agricultural products found their way to over 120 markets worldwide.
Traditional Exports: Traditional agricultural exports, including coffee and cane sugar, contributed $1.23 billion, a 26.8% rise due to increased production and favorable international prices.
Non-Traditional Exports: Non-traditional agricultural exports, which include a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, and other value-added products, reached $11.567 billion, a 20.8% increase.
Leading Products: The top export products were fresh blueberries ($2.27 billion), fresh grapes ($1.705 billion), avocados ($1.248 billion), and raw cocoa beans ($740 million).
Growth Drivers: Products that experienced significant export growth included fresh blueberries, raw cocoa beans, avocados, coffee, cocoa butter, and mangoes.
Fruits and Vegetables: Exports of fruits and vegetables alone exceeded $7.628 billion, accounting for 62.8% of non-traditional agricultural exports.

Major Export Destinations:

The primary destinations for Peruvian agricultural exports were:

United States
Netherlands
Spain
United Kingdom
Chile
Mexico
Ecuador
Germany
China
Canada
These ten countries collectively accounted for 77.1% of the total export value.

Government Support and Trade Agreements:

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening foreign trade policies and highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector as a driver of economic development and job creation.

Peru's open trade policy, supported by 22 active free trade agreements, has created a favorable environment for exports, providing access to 58 economies that represent 82% of the world's GDP and over 3.2 billion potential consumers.

Additional Data and Context:

In December 2024 alone, agricultural exports reached $1.473 billion, a 13.4% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
Peru has solidified its position as one of the world's leading fruit exporters.

The contribution of the agricultural sector to the country's total goods exports increased from 15.5% in 2023 to 17.1% in 2024.

Conclusion:

Peru's record-breaking agricultural export performance in 2024 demonstrates the country's growing competitiveness in the global agricultural market. With continued government support, strategic trade policies, and a focus on diversification and value-added products, the agricultural sector is poised for further growth and will play a crucial role in Peru's economic development.
