Daejeon, South Korea – January 7, 2025 – The Daejeon Fire Department hosted its annual assembly for volunteer firefighters today, outlining its plans for the year ahead. The meeting focused on enhancing the organization's role in community safety and preparedness.
Key discussion points included specializing in supporting fire department operations, elevating the status of volunteer firefighters as community safety guardians, and streamlining the training system for volunteers.
Specific initiatives proposed include:
Swift recovery assistance: Volunteer firefighters will be at the forefront of post-fire recovery efforts, providing immediate assistance to affected households by cleaning up damaged properties and disposing of debris.
Enhanced firefighting capabilities: All volunteers will undergo training to become proficient in using emergency firefighting equipment and water supply systems, enabling them to respond quickly to fires.
Safety for large-scale events: Given the success of the Daejeon 0-si Festival last year, which drew over 2 million visitors, the volunteers will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of this year's event.
"Through our service, we aim to make Daejeon an even safer city for all," said Yoo Hae-yong, president of the Daejeon Volunteer Firefighters Association. "We will continue to be at the forefront of ensuring the safety of our community."
The assembly also recognized the contributions of long-serving volunteer firefighters who have dedicated 20 or more years to community service.
