HANOI – The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has issued a circular regulating 145 statistical indicators for sustainable development in Vietnam.

Circular 2, released on Wednesday, outlines the specific indicators to assess the country's progress towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These indicators encompass a wide range of sectors and apply to all entities involved in the production, provision, and utilization of statistical information related to the SDGs.

Under the circular, the General Statistics Office (GSO) will play a pivotal role. It is responsible for collaborating with relevant agencies to gather and synthesize comprehensive and accurate statistical data on Vietnam's sustainable development, ensuring its international comparability. The GSO will also be tasked with refining data collection methodologies, establishing a dedicated database for sustainable development statistics, and disseminating relevant information.

Other government agencies, including ministries, ministerial-level agencies, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuracy, are obligated to collect and submit data for the assigned indicators to the MPI.

The circular will come into effect on March 10.

A detailed list of the 145 indicators is provided in Appendix I of the circular. Appendix II offers comprehensive information on each indicator, including definitions, calculation methods, key components, publication frequency, data sources, and the responsible data collection agencies.

This circular marks a significant step towards enhancing the monitoring and evaluation of Vietnam's progress in achieving the SDGs, ensuring data-driven decision-making and promoting sustainable development across the country.
