Bucheon, South Korea – Bucheon City has announced an ambitious plan to expand its self-reliance programs, aiming to provide more opportunities for low-income residents to achieve economic independence. The city’s Self-Reliance Agency Council unveiled the “2025 Self-Reliance Support Plan” at a recent meeting.

The council, chaired by Mayor Jo Yong-ik, comprises experts from various fields, including local self-reliance centers, job placement agencies, and social welfare facilities. Their primary goal is to enhance the effectiveness of self-reliance programs in the city.

Under the new plan, Bucheon City has allocated 17.8 billion won to support 44 self-employment projects, creating approximately 600 jobs for low-income individuals. These projects will offer a range of services, including case management, job training, and post-program support, to help participants acquire new skills and build a foundation for long-term financial stability.

Mayor Jo emphasized the importance of continued support from local self-reliance centers and related organizations, especially amid challenging economic conditions. “We will strive to provide more comprehensive support measures so that self-reliance programs can serve as a solid foundation for our residents’ economic independence,” he said.

Bucheon City’s commitment to self-reliance programs has yielded impressive results. In 2024, the Bucheon Wonmi and Bucheon Nanum Self-Reliance Centers were recognized as outstanding organizations by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Additionally, all three of the city’s self-reliance centers successfully participated in numerous evaluations and competitions.
