Stuttgart, Germany – German automotive supplier Bosch is set to reduce its workforce in Germany by up to 10,000 jobs, according to Deputy Supervisory Board Chairman Frank Sell. The move comes as the company grapples with weakening demand, rising costs, and increased competition within the European automotive industry.

Sell described the current situation at Bosch as "absolutely unbearable," citing recent staff reductions and growing uncertainty among employees. The company has already implemented reduced working hours for 2,500 employees, with the potential to extend this measure to 10,000 workers.

In November, Bosch announced plans to cut 5,500 jobs globally, and further layoffs have not been ruled out. Sell emphasized that labor representatives and unions are currently developing an action plan for 2025, which may include strikes if negotiations with the company fail.

The potential job cuts at Bosch underscore the broader challenges facing the German automotive industry as it transitions to electric vehicles and adapts to other structural changes. The slower-than-expected shift to EVs and ongoing economic pressures have forced companies like Bosch to make difficult decisions to remain competitive.
