BOQUETE, PANAMA – Panama's world-renowned Geisha coffee, often hailed as the "God of coffee," has once again captured global attention by setting a new record at the prestigious "Best of Panama" auction. On August 7, a lot of the exquisite coffee sold for an astonishing $30,204 per kilogram, which translates to over $13,700 per pound. This historic sale far surpassed last year's record of $10,103, cementing the Geisha's reputation as a peerless luxury product.

The record-setting lot, a washed Geisha varietal, was produced by the famed Hacienda La Esmeralda estate, located in the Boquete region of Panama's Chiriquí province. Cultivated at high altitudes of 1,650 to 1,900 meters (approximately 5,400 to 6,200 feet), this particular lot was celebrated for its exceptional quality and rarity. The final bid was placed by Julith Coffee, a roastery based in the United Arab Emirates, securing the prized beans after a fierce bidding war.

This year's auction, organized by the Panama Tourism Authority, drew more than 18,900 bids over a 12-hour period, with buyers from over 10 countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia. The intense competition underscored the strong global demand for this unique coffee. More than 30 of the 50 lots in the auction fetched over $1,000 per kilogram, showcasing the high regard in which these premium beans are held by international buyers.

The Panama Geisha coffee is celebrated for its distinctive floral aroma and complex flavor profile, which often includes notes of jasmine, bergamot, and ripe fruit. Its unique qualities have elevated it from a simple beverage to a highly coveted agricultural product, sought after by coffee connoisseurs and specialty roasters worldwide. The record-breaking price not only highlights the coffee's unique characteristics but also the meticulous craftsmanship and perfect growing conditions required to produce such an exceptional crop.

The success of the "Best of Panama" auction further solidifies Panama's position as a leader in the ultra-premium coffee market and opens new opportunities for coffee growers throughout the country. It is a testament to the dedication of producers and the growing global appreciation for the artistry and terroir behind every cup of "God's coffee."
