RIYADH - The Saudi Cabinet on Tuesday welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's resolution requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel's legal obligations regarding the presence and activities of the UN in the Palestinian territories.   

Last week, a resounding 137 UN member states voted in favor of the resolution, with only 12 against and 22 abstaining. The resolution, spearheaded by Norway on behalf of a group including Saudi Arabia, seeks to clarify Israel's legal responsibilities to ensure the safe and effective operation of the UN in providing humanitarian aid and essential services to Palestinians. This move follows Israel's controversial law banning the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.   

The Saudi Cabinet expressed its appreciation for the strong support shown by the international community.

Finally, the Cabinet praised the success of recent economic, cultural, and media events held in Riyadh, further solidifying the city's position as a global hub for science, knowledge, investment, and innovation.
