Clark, Philippines - An Asiana Airlines flight from Clark International Airport in the Philippines to Incheon International Airport in South Korea experienced a significant delay of over 15 hours after the flight's captain lost their passport.

Flight OZ708, originally scheduled to depart at 1:35 a.m. local time (2:35 a.m. Korean time) on Friday, March 28, was unable to take off when the captain discovered the missing travel document. The incident left 135 passengers stranded at Clark International Airport.

Asiana Airlines promptly arranged accommodation for the affected passengers, transferring them to a hotel near the airport while the airline worked to find a solution.

According to the airline industry, Asiana Airlines decided to replace the captain with another pilot who had arrived in Clark on a flight from Incheon the previous day. This necessitated a considerable delay as the replacement captain prepared for the flight.

The rescheduled departure time for flight OZ708 to Incheon is now set for 4:55 p.m. local time (5:55 p.m. Korean time) on the same day. This means passengers faced an unexpected delay of more than half a day due to the unforeseen circumstances.

Asiana Airlines has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or whether any specific measures will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future. However, the incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of travel documents for flight crew and the potential for significant disruptions when these documents are misplaced. Passengers are expected to arrive in Incheon late Friday evening, significantly behind their original schedule.
