The Korean Consulate General in São Paulo (Consul General Chae Jin-won), in collaboration with Hana Bank Brazil (President Lee Gil-yong), has announced the introduction of ‘PIX,’ the most popular electronic account transfer payment method in Brazil, to improve consular services that previously only accepted cash payments.

This system is scheduled to be piloted at the Consulate General in São Paulo starting April 1, 2025.

PIX is an electronic payment system operated through the Central Bank of Brazil and is currently used by over 70% of the Brazilian population. This system, which has a higher usage rate than cash and debit cards, is expected to significantly alleviate the inconvenience of cash payments experienced by consular service users.

Consul General Chae Jin-won stated, “We are well aware of the difficulties our fellow Koreans have faced in preparing cash for consular service fee payments. We expect that the introduction of PIX payments will greatly improve consular services and enhance the convenience for our compatriots.”

He also added, “We extend our deepest gratitude to Hana Bank Brazil and its staff for their cooperation in realizing this reform.”

The Consulate General plans to continue its efforts to further improve consular convenience and expand digital administrative services, starting with the introduction of PIX payments.
