Silk Road Train Launches in Kazakhstan

Almaty, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) announced on November 16th the launch of the “Silk Road” tourist train, a five-day journey traversing Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. This inaugural trip departed from Almaty, taking passengers on a cultural and historical exploration of the two Central Asian nations.

As a pilot project by KTZ, the Silk Road train follows a circular route, starting and ending in Almaty with stops in Turkestan and Tashkent. The inaugural journey accommodated 115 passengers, offering a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural and historical heritage of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Expert guides accompanied the tour throughout.

In Turkestan, passengers visited historical landmarks such as the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum, the Arystan Bab Mausoleum, and the Otyrar Museum. In Tashkent, the itinerary included the Hazrati Imam Complex (Barak Khan Madrasah, Abu Bakr Muhammad Kaffal Shashi Mosque, and Kalyan Minaret), and the Magic City theme park. A day was also allocated for independent exploration.

The Silk Road train consists of four sleeping compartments and a restaurant car serving three meals a day. According to KTZ, tickets for the Silk Road tourist train can be purchased through travel agencies.
