Apple Brings Vision Pro XR Headset to South Korea

Seoul, South Korea – Apple has officially launched its highly anticipated Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in South Korea. Positioned as a "spatial computer," the device is designed to seamlessly blend digital content with the real world. Initially unveiled in the United States in February, the Vision Pro is now available to South Korean consumers.

A New Era of Spatial Computing

Users can interact with the Vision Pro by gazing at on-screen elements and using simple hand gestures, such as pinching two fingers together. The headset also supports voice commands through Siri, allowing users to open apps, play media, and perform other tasks. With over 1.5 million apps compatible with the Vision Pro, including popular local apps like KakaoTalk and Tving, users have a vast library of content to explore.

Pricing and Availability

The Vision Pro starts at ₩4,990,000 and is available in three storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Consumers can experience the Vision Pro firsthand at seven Apple Stores across South Korea, including locations in Myeongdong, Garosu-gil, Yeouido, Gangnam, Jamsil, Hongdae, and Hanam.

Initial Challenges and Future Outlook

While the Vision Pro has generated significant buzz, it has also faced challenges. Recent reports suggest that Apple has scaled back production of the device due to lower-than-expected sales. The high price point, limited content availability, and a lack of compelling use cases have been cited as potential reasons for the slower-than-anticipated adoption.

However, Apple remains optimistic about the future of spatial computing. CEO Tim Cook emphasized in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the Vision Pro is a long-term investment and that it takes time for groundbreaking products to gain widespread adoption. Apple has hinted at a more affordable version of the Vision Pro, potentially priced around ₩2 million, which could be released next year.
