the 28th Overseas Koreans Literary Awards

The Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA) is hosting the 28th Overseas Koreans Literary Awards, open to overseas Koreans living in approximately 180 countries worldwide. Since its inception in 1999, this annual contest has served as a creative platform for Hangeul literature, aiming to strengthen the national identity of overseas Koreans and promote mutual understanding between overseas and domestic Koreans. We look forward to your active interest and participation.

 
□ Eligibility
Adults: Overseas Koreans who have acquired citizenship/permanent residency or have resided abroad for 7 years or longer.
Youth (Ages 7–18): Overseas Koreans who have acquired citizenship/permanent residency or have resided abroad for 5 years or longer.

Note: Residency duration and age are calculated based on the application deadline.
□ Categories
Poetry: Open theme (3–5 poems).
Short Story: Open theme (1–3 stories; approx. 16,000 characters or 15 pages per story).
Experience-based Essays / Personal Essays:

Experiences of feeling Korean identity and pride within the local community.
Various activities and exchange experiences in the local society.
Experiences related to Korean language, history, or culture education as a Korean school teacher, student, or parent.
Personal, family, or relatives' stories regarding the process of immigration and settlement.
Other open themes.
□ Award Ceremony & Invitational Event
Period: September 28 – 30, 2026 (3 days, 2 nights).
Support: Airfare, accommodation, meals, etc.

Airfare: Round-trip economy class will be supported within the maximum limit set by the OKA (self-payment may be required for costs exceeding the limit).
Schedule, location, and airfare limits will be notified individually to winners later.
□ Application Period & Method
Period: May 20 (Wed) 9:00 AM – June 7 (Sun) 11:59 PM, 2026 (Korea Standard Time).
How to Apply: Online submission via Korean Net (korean.net).
