The Daejeon Civic Choir successfully concluded its European tour connecting Türkiye and Greece, elevating the status of K-choral music on the global stage.
Following successful ‘Thank You and Memorial Concerts for Korean War Veterans’ in Türkiye on the 9th and 12th, the Daejeon Civic Choir presented the final stage of its tour on the 15th at the ‘Maria Callas Municipal Music Theater of Olympia’ in Athens, Greece. Held as the ‘Korea-Greece 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Concert,’ the performance received enthusiastic responses from local audiences, grandly concluding the tour.
Under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Winfried Toll, the Daejeon Civic Choir showcased sophisticated ensemble and profound musicality. The performances, composed of a cappella and piano accompaniment, fully delivered the pure voices of the members, leaving a deep impression on local audiences in Türkiye and Greece.

The concert featured Western classical and contemporary choral masterpieces by Brahms, Fauré, and Britten, as well as Korean lyric songs capturing deep emotions such as ‘Sanyuhwa,’ ‘Gashiri,’ and ‘Arirang.’ Through a magnificent harmony embracing both Eastern and Western music, they communicated with audiences of both countries, marking a meaningful time to convey peace and gratitude to Korea-Greece and celebrate cultural exchange.
Dimitris (52), a local citizen who watched the Athens performance, shared his impressions, saying, “It was an honor to see such a high-caliber performance by a Korean choir in such a meaningful year marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Greece and Korea. When the pure resonance produced by human voices filled the Maria Callas Theater, I felt chills all over my body. Especially when the traditional Korean melodies harmonized with the piano accompaniment, I felt an overwhelming emotion of deep connection between the two countries, transcending language barriers.”
Through this three-city tour, the Daejeon Civic Choir fulfilled its role as a cultural envoy conveying gratitude to war veteran countries and friendship between the nations. Furthermore, they successfully concluded their schedule by showcasing the artistry of Korean choir and the capabilities of the Daejeon Civic Choir on the international stage.
