Seoul, South Korea – A new book offering a poignant glimpse into the lives of forensic investigators has been released, providing readers with a unique perspective on the often-grueling and emotionally demanding work of those who investigate crimes.

"We Are Only in One Scene of the Movie," published on December 16 by Gozgneog IE, features personal accounts from 28 forensic investigators across South Korea. The essays, selected from over 120 submissions to a recent police agency contest, offer a raw and honest portrayal of the challenges and rewards of a career dedicated to seeking justice.

From medical examiners conducting autopsies on children to criminal profilers analyzing complex cases, the contributors share their experiences with both intellectual rigor and heartfelt emotion. One medical examiner describes the profound impact of examining a deceased child, expressing the internal conflict between maintaining emotional detachment and feeling a deep sense of empathy.

"The book reveals that what drives these investigators to persevere in such demanding work is, paradoxically, hope," said the publisher. "Despite the often grim realities of their job, they find moments of hope in the smallest of clues, and through their tireless efforts, they are able to bring closure to victims and their families."

The book's proceeds will be donated to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation to support children who have been victims of crime.

"We hope this book will help people better understand the critical role that forensic investigators play in our society," said Park Woo-hyun, a forensic science advisor at the National Police Agency. "Their dedication and compassion are truly inspiring."

A book launch and signing event will be held at Kyobo Bookstore in Gwanghwamun on December 19 at 4:30 PM.
