- Provincial Government, Provincial Council, and 28 Universities Launch "Anchor Project Director Policy Consultative Body"

Promotion of AI, Semiconductor, and Robotics Talent Development Linked to Daegyeong Region's Growth Engines

Gyeongsangbuk-do is transforming its university anchor project from simple financial support into a regional growth platform. In cooperation with 28 participating anchor universities in the province, the province will reorganize low-efficiency tasks and invest the secured financial resources into talent development linked to the government's three mega-projects and the Daegyeong region's growth engines.

On the 21st, Gyeongsangbuk-do held the "Gyeongbuk Anchor Project Director Policy Consultative Body" meeting at the Gumico Convention Hall, attended by members of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council and project directors from the 28 participating anchor universities in the province. The consultative body served as a platform to discuss anchor restructuring plans and joint agendas among universities.

The consultative body will operate as an official cooperative channel through which the provincial government and the 28 anchor-performing universities jointly discuss and coordinate talent development policies needed by the region. It will promptly convey the policy directions of the government and Gyeongbuk to the universities, and promote university support and talent development projects that reflect the opinions of the university field.

During the meeting, the direction of Gyeongbuk's talent development policies and opinions from the university field were shared. Participating universities expressed the view that universities must transition from simply supplying human resources for local industries into innovation hubs for artificial intelligence and high-tech industries. They emphasized that universities should establish themselves as the main agents leading the change and growth of local industries.

The provincial government plans to connect the talent, technology, and research capabilities of universities with local industries to create a virtuous cycle where young people learn, find employment, and settle down in the region. After reorganizing low-efficiency tasks among existing university support projects and expanding the project scale, the secured financial resources will be allocated to talent development tasks linked to the government's three mega-projects and the Daegyeong region's growth engines.

Lee Sang-soo, Director General of the Local Government Strategy Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "We must leverage the unique characteristics and strengths of each university to intensively cultivate talent required for regional strategic industries such as semiconductors, AI, and robotics." He added, "We will expand sharing and cooperation among universities so that they can establish themselves as core hubs of regional growth, and actively engage in talent development tailored to the demands of local industries."
