Family-friendly festival featuring live butterfly and silkworm ecological experiences to be held at the Sangju Hamchang Sericulture and Insect Research Institute

Gyeongsangbuk-do Sericulture and Insect Research Institute announced that it will host the '2026 Noon-Noo-Nan-Na Insect Festa' for children and family visitors from the 23rd to the 25th for three days at the institute located in Hamchang-eup, Sangju-si.

This event is designed as a family-friendly festival where visitors can directly observe and experience living insects, helping them understand the ecological value of insects.

On the 23rd, the opening ceremony will feature a performance releasing around 3,000 butterflies into the air. A traditional sericulture thanksgiving ritual will also be held to express gratitude for the fruits of this year's sericulture activities.

At the silkworm exhibition hall, visitors can experience the 5,000-year history of silkworm growth alongside humans and traditional sericulture culture. New varieties of living silkworms will be unveiled to the public for the first time, introducing the history of changes and value of the sericulture industry.

The 'Butterfly Tunnel of Wishes' will release around 5,000 butterflies, including swallowtail butterflies, cabbage white butterflies, large tree-nymph butterflies, and common grass yellow butterflies. Visitors can observe butterflies up close inside the tunnel and decorate wish cards using the wish wall and photo zones.

The event will be held in conjunction with Sangju City’s Slow Life Festival and the National Institute of Hanbok Advancement’s Hanbok Culture Week. This creates an opportunity to experience insect ecology, traditional sericulture culture, alongside Sangju's lifestyle culture and local food all in one place.

Park Chan-guk, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Distribution Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "The Noon-Noo-Nan-Na Insect Festa is a family-friendly festival where people can closely meet insects and nature by directly seeing and experiencing live butterflies, silkworms, and various other insects," adding, "We hope many people will visit the venue to create special autumn memories where insects and traditional culture harmonize."
