Seosan, South Chungcheong Province – The 22nd Seosan Haemie Eupseong Festival officially commenced its vibrant run on September 26th, transforming the historic Haemie Eupseong fortress grounds into a grand stage for cultural immersion. The festival, renowned as a representative event for Chungcheongnam-do, offers a rich blend of history, cutting-edge technology, and family-focused activities until its conclusion on September 28th.

Embracing Tradition and Innovation

Operating daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, this year's festival is themed "Goseong Bangga (古城放佳) Season 3: Meeting the Wisdom of the Past, Present, and Future." The opening ceremony featured a spectacular fusion of global and local talent, including a performance by the Montenegro Crna Gora Folk Ensemble and the Seosan City Choir. The event officially kicked off with a declaration, welcoming remarks, and a stunning holographic performance.

A highlight of the opening was the main performance, where artist Yeom Dong-gyun used XR drawing to bring the history of Haemie Eupseong and prominent Seosan figures to life through virtual imagery, seamlessly merging tradition with advanced technology.

As night fell, the ancient fortress walls became a massive screen for the media art show, “600 Years of Haemie, Singing with Light,” offering the audience a magnificent, time-travel-like spectacle. The festive atmosphere peaked with performances by invited singers Yoo Ji-woo and Park Ji-hyeon.

Interactive History and Master Craftsmen

The festival is dedicated to providing hands-on experiences for all ages. Attendees can participate in various history and ecology-themed activities, such as the reenactment of King Taejong’s Royal Procession and Gangmu (military exercise), traditional wedding ceremonies, millstone experiences, and eco-friendly energy juice making.

Furthermore, the event features the expertise of Chungnam Intangible Cultural Heritage artisans. Master carpenter Jang Woon-jin will demonstrate the disassembly and reassembly of a prefabricated house, while Dancheong (traditional decorative coloring) expert Lee Jin-gu will host a coloring experience that encourages citizen participation. Visitors can also observe and learn from masters of Jiseung (paper string craft), stone carving, wood carving, and traditional liquor making.

Focus on Family Well-being

A core value of this year's festival is the innovative program, “We’ll Look After Your Kids,” which underscores the event’s commitment to family enjoyment. The initiative provides a systematic safety and family-friendly resting spaces, allowing children to freely play, learn, and be at the center of the festivities, while ensuring parents and grandparents can relax and confidently enjoy the rest of the festival offerings.

Seosan Mayor Lee Wan-seop expressed his pride, noting, "Seeing citizens and tourists come together at the opening ceremony confirms the Seosan Haemie Eupseong Festival's status as a leading festival of Chungnam. I hope many people can share in the special emotion of autumn at this festival of wisdom where tradition, present, and future meet."
