Kakamega, Kenya - A state-of-the-art engineering complex at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is facing significant delays, prompting concerns from local authorities. The project, which began in November 2021, is currently only 29% complete, despite a projected completion date of November 2025.

The Kakamega County Development Implementation Coordination and Management Committee has urged the contractor, Pinnie Agency Limited, to accelerate construction efforts to meet the revised deadline of November 2026. The Sh716 million project, which is expected to house the School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) and a TVET institute, has received Sh270 million in funding so far.

To expedite the project, MMUST has allocated an additional Sh95 million from its savings. The university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, expressed concern over the slow progress and emphasized the importance of the complex in providing modern facilities for engineering and TVET education.

The Engineering Complex, once completed, will feature three wings, five floors, and an underground design. It will house workshops, laboratories, conference facilities, lecture rooms, a theater, offices, and a restaurant.
