KT Expands Healthcare AX Business with New 'Medical Standard Model'

KT announced that it is accelerating the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation of domestic hospitals by launching a comprehensive "Medical Standard Model." This initiative covers customized infrastructure, data platforms, and AI services tailored to the specific needs of individual medical institutions, aiming to enhance productivity and drive management innovation.

1. Core Focus Areas of the Medical Standard Model

The newly unveiled framework is structured around three main pillars designed to optimize hospital operations:

Enhancing Patient Experience: Streamlining touchpoints from pre-admission inquiries to post-discharge care.
Improving Medical Staff Efficiency: Reducing administrative burdens and optimizing clinical workflows.
Optimizing Hospital Operations: Standardizing medical data and automating complex billing and charting tasks.

2. Key AI Services for Patients and Staff

KT has systematically integrated AI transformation (AX) across a wide range of hospital functions:

AI Patient Assistant: A 24/7 AI voicebot that automatically handles patient inquiries, classifies symptoms for appointment booking, and provides post-discharge care guidance. KT plans to incorporate a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) search function based on medical knowledge in the first quarter of next year.
Clinical and Operational Agents: To support medical staff, KT introduces nursing and operating room schedule agents alongside robust medical data platforms. These platforms aggregate and store electronic health records (EHRs), medical imaging, and test data, standardizing them for AI model training and validation.
Administrative Agent: This tool listens to and analyzes clinical dialogues between doctors and patients, automatically generating clinical notes using standard medical terminology and abbreviations. Following medical review, it integrates directly with EHR and prescription systems to automate everything from charting to billing.

3. Advanced Solutions and Future Outlook

By combining solutions from specialized medical partners with its medical data platform, hybrid cloud infrastructure, and GPU computing power, KT plans to expand its standard model into diagnostic support and clinical decision-making. Key examples include the "AI Cancer Diagnosis Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS)"—which provides treatment guidelines based on patient clinical and imaging data—and "AI Endoscopy Reading," which analyzes live endoscopy footage to improve lesion detection rates and standardize reading quality.

KT has reorganized its dedicated healthcare AX organization and plans to roll out these innovations across major tertiary hospitals nationwide.

"In alignment with national policies for expanding medical AI, KT will spearhead the spread of healthcare AX as an AI platform company," said Kim Bong-gyun, Vice President and Head of KT's Enterprise Business Division. "Because hospitals have different systems, data environments, and AX priorities, we will combine our infrastructure and AX capabilities to provide a foundation where hospitals can introduce necessary services and expand them step-by-step."
