On October 31 at 15:00, the public-private humanities co-planning project 'Annex for Everyone' will be held at the museum annex... Featuring , where works of intellectual Lee Byeong-ju who lived through turbulent-era Busan are met with music.

The Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum announced that it will host the public-private humanities co-planning program 'Annex for Everyone' on the first floor of the museum annex at 3 PM on October 31.

'Annex for Everyone' is a humanities event hosted through public-private cooperation to promote cultural contents produced by local humanities organizations (spaces) to the general public. This year, the event is organized in partnership with 'Culture Nomadic Group Donghaeng', a professional culture and arts organization in Busan founded in 2021. Culture Nomadic Group Donghaeng has continuously sought new possibilities for performing arts through planning that connects various genres such as philosophy, literature, film, and history, while consistently providing stages that can be encountered close to citizens' daily lives, beyond professional performance halls. Building on this know-how, the group plans to present performance content encompassing an individual's life, literary works, and modern and contemporary Korean history to citizens at the museum annex, a humanities complex cultural space.

This event will take the form of a literary concert that explores the life and literary world of 'Narim Lee Byeong-ju', Busan’s representative journalist and a giant of Korean literature who was active on the Busan stage. Narim Lee Byeong-ju served as the editor-in-chief and chief leader writer of the Kukje Shinmun in the past, experiencing the turbulent modern history of Korea in Busan with his whole body. His literary works vividly contain not only the social conditions of the times but also the diverse music and cultural memories of that era.

In this stage, ten pieces of music featured in his representative novels, such as 『Gwanbu Ferry』, 『Alexandria』, and 『Yenangpungmulji』, will be selected and showcased. Major pieces include the Gangwon-do folk song (from the novel 『Alexandria』), the aria <Una (The Elixir Love) furtiva lagrima of> from the opera 《L'elisir d'amore》 (from the novel 『Gwanbu Ferry』), and (from the novel 『Yenangpungmulji』).

The performance will be delivered with a colorful melody by the Donghaeng Piano Trio (Violin Lee Hyun-woo, Cello Cho Myung-hwan, Piano Jung Eun-jung) and piri performer Lee Yoon-hee. The event will be hosted by Music Director Jung Doo-hwan, accompanied by readings from Korean language teacher Cho Young-rim. A program note containing plot summaries and major passages will be provided to the audience.

The program accepts applications on a first-come, first-served basis for 40 participants through the history museum's website (busan.go.kr/mmch), and anyone can participate for free.

Kim Gi-yong, Director of the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum, said, "It will be a meaningful occasion to view the modern and contemporary history of Busan and Korea from a new perspective through Lee Byeong-ju's works and music, who lived through the center of modern and contemporary Korean history."
